Chennai: Escalating the political confrontation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s government, DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), branding the newly formed party a “Breaking Bad Party” following the arrest of a local functionary in connection with a major narcotics seizure.
“TVK is not just a bad party, but a Breaking Bad Party,” Stalin wrote on X.
According to Stalin, Boopalan, a TVK functionary from Nagapattinam district and the party’s election in-charge for the Kilvelur Assembly constituency, was arrested by officials of the Union government’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
“While the Chief Minister has been lecturing from public stages about the eradication of drugs, initial investigations reveal that the TVK member was hiding 135 kilograms of methamphetamine,” the former Chief Minister said. He added that Boopalan had been “caught red-handed at the height of his career”.

Stalin questioned whether the TVK functionary had been addressing the public about the drug menace while allegedly operating a large narcotics network within the party. He called on authorities to investigate the seizure and identify others who may be involved.
“Having earned the reputation of a bad party within just five months of entering politics, TVK has now been promoted to a Breaking Bad Party,” Stalin alleged.
The reference was to Breaking Bad, the popular television series about a chemistry teacher who turns to manufacturing and selling illegal drugs.
“Are you scared? It’s going to get much more terrifying as we go on,” Stalin said, warning Vijay against using punchlines while addressing issues such as drug trafficking.
